Professional Therapy Associates will be offering free seminars, Fireside Chats, to cover different health and fitness issues. The chat, recognizing September as Pain Awareness Month, will be called Stand up to Back Pain, to be held fireside in the lobby of The WAVE Fitness Center at 1250 Baker Avenue in Whitefish, MT on September 26, 2012 at 12:30pm.

There are over 76 million people in the U.S. affected by chronic pain and The National Institutes of Health estimates that the economic cost of pain exceeds $ 100 billion per year in the U.S., including health care utilization costs and lost workforce productivity (1).

Professional Therapy Associates wanted to become involved because they have a wealth of information to give to the community on how to handle chronic pain, the future of physical therapy and healthcare, injury prevention, and rehab. Because PTA sees an increasingly high percentage of back pain patients, they are knowledgeable of ways to treat pain (as well as find the underlying cause).

The Fireside chats are a great way to enlighten the community on what physical therapy is, how it can help with pain, and get them the information on how to contact our clinic when they (or someone they know) is in need of physical therapy, commented Blaine Stimac, owner of Professional Therapy Associates.

Keeping Safe And Warm When Ice Biking | Extreme Sports X

As the winter months beckon, cyclists are preparing for the difficult conditions that the cold weather will bring. Ice biking is a popular recreational and sporting activity, and some keen cyclists look forward to the challenge that ice biking brings. Many seek out frozen trails, snowmobile and ski tracks and frozen areas to find somewhere to push their cycling skills. However, for those who rely on their bicycle for travel or commuting purposes, ice biking can be a difficult and challenging daily routine. Whatever the reason, it is important to stay safe and warm when cycling in the cold weather, as the icy conditions can easily cause injury.

Wrap Up Warm

It can be treacherous cycling in cold weather. Rain and snow can hamper your vision (as well as affect your visibility) and chilly winds can be painful and dangerous. Heavy coats and jackets can affect mobility, so dress in several layers of wool fabrics, as well as wind and water resistant outer layers that are high visibility. This way, you can remove some layers if you start getting warm (this is likely if it is a long journey, or if the weather changes) but you are also prepared for the coldest. Wear thick wool or thermal socks and water resistant shoes, as your feet are most likely to get splashed in sleet and rain. Gloves are very important too, and thick riding gloves are preferential as they don?t restrict the hands movement so that brakes can safely be operated.

Prepare Your Bike

Always check your brakes and lights are working before you set off. For recreational, off-road and trail activities, most mountain bike tyres will be fine for ice biking. Some bikers prefer to deflate their tyres to gain traction and control in the tough conditions, but be aware that letting out too much air can damage the rims. Special low pressure tyres and wide rims can be bought for those who plan on ice biking off-road regularly.

Ice biking on roads can be much more difficult, as concrete and tarmac hide slippy ice patches which are hard to cycle through. If you are biking in areas that are often icy, you may have to invest in a pair of studded tyres. Normal tyres can get through the occasional patch of ice without any problems, but constant icy conditions are much harder. The hard-wearing metal studs can help gain traction and control and avoid skids.

Change How You Ride

It is much more difficult to cycle on icy terrain, and cyclists should keep in mind that they will not be able to go as fast when ice biking. If you are making a regular journey, such as a daily commute, set off much earlier than you usually would. Ride slower and keep upright, especially when turning corners or coming to a stop. This can take some getting used to, as most cyclists are accustomed to using their body weight to lean in when making a turn.

Braking can be difficult as the bike?s tyres will find it much harder to find traction, so you need to brake with plenty of stopping distance. Try to avoid using your front brake, as it can cause loss of control which is hard to recover from. Rear braking, even in a skid, is much more controllable and effective on ice.

Check Your Bike Afterwards, Too

When cycling in cold weather, your bike will get most likely be covered in slush and snow. This can affect the brakes, gears and tyres. Try to remove as much as you can when you get to your destination. As well as affecting cycling performance, slush and dirt containing road salt and grit can corrode and damage brake pads and bicycle chains.

New Delhi, Sep. 28 (ANI): Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath has expressed concern over fair pricing, while demanding involvement of village councils in deciding the value of land in the draft version of the Land Acquisition Bill.

Commenting soon after meeting of Group of Ministers (GoM) headed by Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, Nath said: ?My concern is about the fair market value, the fair market value is defined as the circle rate or the rate at which transfers have been made.?

?Now, it is well known, that the circle rate does not reflect the market price, the transacted price or registered price does not reflect the market price and even if we have a multiple of three and you multiply it by four, in most cases it is still not be the fair market price. So I have suggested that the gram Panchayat (village council) must decide the price of land, there must be another stream of valuation which will decide the price of land,? he added.

He said that processes of compensation and acquiring land should be done in an expeditious manner and also brought under the aegis of the bill.

?I want process to be fast, so that both the farmer gets his compensation quickly and process of acquiring should be fast. One of our major concerns is that there are huge tracts of land. Land has been acquired and notice has been issued, neither has compensation been paid, five years have passed, compensation has not been taken- possession has not been paid now those must come under the ambit of the new laws,? he added.

The GoM meeting on the Land Acquisition Bill was not fruitful, as the panel was indecisive in arriving at a rational conclusion. Reportedly, soon after the meeting, Pawar had indicated that the amendments to the draft would be completed within a week?s time.

The central government had constituted a 14-member GoM last week after some ministers had voiced reservations against some of the Bill?s provisions.
The ?Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill, 2011? was tabled in the Parliament last year and was referred to a Parliamentary Standing Committee which submitted its recommendations in May 2012. (ANI)

Actively engaging viewers is key to online success | Streaming ...

In this era of thousands of video news clips available whenever you want them and countless more being uploaded every day, in order to attract an online audience and monetize that video, it?s not enough for TV station websites to host content that mimics its main linear television channel. In fact, according to a high-powered panel of current and former news professionals and new media experts well versed in all things online, it?s how you ?purpose? that video from the outset ? across multiple platforms ? and what happens to it virally after it has been posted that really counts with online marketers.

Sponsored by Streamworks International, a live streaming services provider based in the UK, a recent discussion entitled ?The New Live News Paradigm: Anywhere, Any Device? sought to answer some tough questions about the value of online video and how best to engage the online audience during major news events.

The event gathered Joe Ruffolo, senior vice president of Digital Media at ABC News; Roy Sekoff, president, HuffPost Live and a founding editor of the Huffington Post; and Andrew Heyward, the former president of CBS News (who held the position longer than anyone at the network) and now an advisor to media companies.

Their winning strategy: If you build an audience for that video, using social media tools and interactive web environments to actively ?engage? them and keep them coming back, then you can begin to perhaps charge a subscription for a video service. Until they clearly understand how to do this, however, local broadcasters, with a lot less money to spend than their network and other deep-pocket competitors, will continue to mistakenly present an experience similar to traditional linear TV. This, said the panelists, is a recipe for eventual online disaster because attention spans among consumers are getting shorter, and creativity is often more compelling than real substance.

?Everyone?s producing video now, so what are you doing beyond that to engage the audience with that video?,? Heyward asked, adding that a fundamental shift in control has occurred, moving from the content producer to the content consumer. He said?the average consumer, not the TV executive, now decides whether a video message has been delivered correctly or not.

Streamworks delivers audio and video over any network to any device, anywhere in the world using bandwidth from companies like Level 3 Communications. Level 3?s IP-based fiber network is also being used to deliver live, uncut video news feeds to news organizations like Associated Press Television News, which in turn repackages it for broadcasters around the world (or allows regional broadcasters to do it themselves). The company said its fully managed service for delivering live and on-demand video saves, on average,?more than 30 percent?bandwidth over traditional satellite ? using specialized H.264 encoding and other date rate scaling techniques.

Ray Mia, the CEO of Streamworks ? who also participated in the panel discussion at the British Embassy in New York City ? said while everyone agrees that content is King, ?Distribution is King Kong.?

?You?ve got to get that news video into the right hands, at the right time, or it loses value quickly,? Mia said. ?There?s a time for on-demand viewing, but a live stream is the most compelling way to deliver the news. The technology now being deployed is making this easier and easier.?

At ABC News, Ruffolo said they've seen the biggest jump in video consumption across its mobile platforms, particularly during coverage of the recent political party conventions. This significant upswing in on-the-go usage, according to Ruffolo, is exactly why the old way of delivering news does not work for viewers anymore. Consumers rarely watch the network?s flagship news program ?World News Tonight? when it airs at 6:30 Eastern in the evening. They record it for later viewing. Or they watch a small portion on TV in real time, and then watch the rest later online.

?We now look at ABC News?s Digital Media division as supporting three streams simultaneously: TV, the Internet and Mobile,? Ruffolo said. ?All three share some common content, but how they each deliver it is vastly different.?

?You also have to be careful how you use text,? he added, ?as it can get in the way of the video viewing experience. I?m not saying that text is not important. Good journalism always gets people?s attention, but for the casual viewer, they want to see the video first and foremost. An exclusive video [or a uniquely edited clip from someone else?s video] gets people engaged, so you want that video front and center on any website and easily accessible across all mobile platforms.?

In discussing his company?s efforts behind HuffPost Live, a new in-house produced streaming video network that provides 12 hours of live video per day, Sekoff said they?ve hired 100 people, originating from all aspects of the online world (including former CNN, MSNBC and The Onion employees) to staff the new venture.

HuffPost Livetakes advantage of The Huffington Post's (owned by AOL) expanding online community and social platforms to ?engage viewers? around the world ? who can also join in live via webcam. The network launched in August with?10 hosts ? eight hours of live programming out of New York and four hours out of Los Angeles each weekday. Highlights are posted online overnight and on weekends.

?There?s a whole new generation of talented, young digital media professionals that get the idea that this new online experience is a two-way dialogue,? Sekoff said. ?We, as media companies, are no longer just talking at people. We are listening to what they have to say and responding to it as quickly as we can. When we?re successful, consumers, in turn, are responding back. That?s what we mean by ?engaging the audience.? If they don?t respond back, they are not engaged, and you, as a media company, have to figure that out if you want advertisers to support your content service.?

Sekoff joked that HuffPost Live and the industry in general is in the ?zygote? stage when it comes to understanding what type of content online viewers want to watch and how best to engage them to get the most value for advertisers and online marketers.

Zoo zeroes in?on?cause of panda's death

National Zoo officials said Monday that preliminary necropsy results from the zoo's recently deceased panda cub show that the cub had fluid in its abdomen and some discoloration in the liver.

Chief Veterinarian Suzan Murray said the free fluid in the abdomen was abnormal for a cub. The cub ? which was unnamed ? weighed 100 grams, had nursed and had a coat that was "just beautiful," Murray said.

The cub is believed to have been a female, Murray said, since it seemed to be developing ovary-like tissue.

Dynamism of life amuses me. It forces me to think again and again flipping through the pages in the book of past. I find some old faces wearing alluring smiles. I find a few of them in the present chapters of my life and few have trailed away leaving a fading impression on my mind.

Once he was the closest to my heart. We could not keep away of texting each other for even a single minute of the day. We shared every possible feeling we could have. A perfect friendship bonded with utmost love and care. Then we parted leading to the new worlds, separated worlds. We talk rarely these days but whenever we do we share our feelings and it makes me feel good.

I messaged him after a week to share the grief of seeing my friends receding away. I asked him-?Don?t you miss me?? and he replied-?I do but I don?t find time to and don?t feel like to talk sometimes?. The reason he stated for this was that he gets tired and sleepy due to the immense workload and thus he has got addicted to the stereotype lifestyle. This made me realize that the friendship is still there but it has taken some different form. He says that friendship got changed because our lives got changed. I feel I am still the same old friend with a changed life. He said-?Given a chance, it might be seen that we are still the same rather it?s the place and work that we are put into which changes things.?

I said I wanted to accept this fact of changing friends and friendship but not at the cost of parting friends. I would never wish to see a gulf between the sweet relations. As a reply to it he said what I had never expected. He said that instead of thinking that way I must try to accept the fact of receding friends which might be difficult but isn?t impossible. I ran out of words and got dumbfounded. I knew he was right but I kept thinking why he can?t be wrong. Why I have to lose my pals when I love them truly? Situations govern our lives but I can?t take them taking over my emotions.

The flickering faces juggle near my eyes. I tried to shape up my life and my relations but I see that workload and lifestyle is shaping up me and my friends and ultimately our relations. I miss those relations which got buried in the past. I love those people who are standing with me today. But I don?t understand how to get over these receding relationships. Shall I accept them the way they are or I should make attempts to save them?

Answer:?It depends on the custodian, the size of your IRA, and the storage facility. Assume $200 ? $400 per year as an estimate.

Question:?Why so much?
Answer:?Fees, IRS regulations, accounting, profit, and expenses. Gold and silver have increased 15% to 20% per year for the past decade. How has your money market account performed in that time? How have your brokerage accounts and mutual funds performed in that time??Did you feel safe or vulnerable during the crash of 2008??Would you feel safer if your IRA funds were not held in the banking or financial system? After considering these questions, the fees may seem quite reasonable. If not, then stay with what has been working for you.

Conclusion

An IRA that invests in physical gold and silver is NOT for everyone, but it may be appropriate for a portion of your retirement funds. It will probably be safer in the event of another financial meltdown, but it will be more expensive than a traditional IRA, and it is less convenient and flexible. Choose what works for you.

WASHINGTON (AP) ? The big rallies are mostly out. High-dollar fundraisers are in.

Both presidential campaigns feel an urgent need to keep raising millions of dollars. So, barely six weeks before the election, President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney are still spending time going after checks instead of scheduling big daily rallies. It's a far cry from previous campaigns.

The candidates believe the change is necessary. After all, just for example, a week of advertising in Florida runs some $5 million.

This is the first presidential contest where both candidates are raising their own dollars ? neither is using money from Americans' tax return checkoffs. That's contributed to be changes in the final weeks of the campaign.

ISLAMABAD (AP) ? U.S. Embassy advertisements condemning an anti-Islam video appeared on Pakistani television on Thursday in an attempt to undercut anger against the United States, where the film was produced. Hundreds of youths, however, clashed with security officials as they tried in vain to reach the embassy in Islamabad amid outrage in many countries over the film's vulgar depiction of the Prophet Muhammad.

The ads reflected efforts by the U.S. government to distance itself from the video in a country where anti-American sentiment already runs high. Violence linked to the movie has left at least 30 people in seven countries dead, including the American ambassador to Libya. Two people have died in protests in Pakistan.

In recent days, the decision by a French satirical magazine to release cartoons crudely depicting the prophet has added to the tension, as may the upcoming issue of the German satirical magazine Titanic. The magazine's co-editor Martin Sonneborn said it was up to readers to decide whether the cover of an Arab wielding a sword actually depicts the Prophet Muhammad.

Most outrage appears linked to the amateurish movie, which portrays the prophet as a fraud, womanizer and child molester.

The television ads in Pakistan feature clips of President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton during press appearances in Washington in which they condemned the video. Their words were subtitled in Urdu.

"We absolutely reject its content and message," said Clinton in the advertisement.

The advertisements end with the seal of the American Embassy in Islamabad, the Pakistani capital.

State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said the ad was produced by the embassy, which spent $70,000 to air the 30-second spot on seven Pakistani television stations. Pakistan is the only country where the ads are running. The embassy wanted to run the ads because it determined that the messages of Obama and Clinton were not reaching enough of the Pakistani public through regular news reporting, Nuland said.

"As you know, after the (anti-Islam) video came out, there was concern in lots of bodies politic, including Pakistan, as to whether this represented the views of the U.S. government. So, in order to be sure that we reached the largest number of Pakistanis, some 90 million as I understand it in this case with these spots, it was the judgment that this was the best way to do it," Nuland said.

In an email, the embassy in Islamabad sent out a link to video of ordinary Americans condemning the anti-Islam film, which appeared on YouTube. The State Department compiled the clips to give foreign audiences an idea of what regular Americans and their religious leaders thought of the video, Nuland said.

Protests have tapered off in many countries, but in Pakistan on Thursday, more than 2,000 people tried to reach the U.S. Embassy inside a guarded enclave that houses embassies and government offices.

Riot police used tear gas and batons to keep the stone-throwing demonstrators away from the enclave, and hundreds of shipping containers were lined up to cordon off the area. The government later called in army troops to protect the restricted areas when it appeared that police could not handle the situation.

"It is our responsibility to protect all our diplomats, all the foreigners," said Pakistani Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira. He criticized protesters for resorting to violence and suggested that various religious and militant groups among the crowd were to blame.

Most of the protesters appeared to be students affiliated with the Islamist hardline Jamaat-e-Islami party. Flags from other Islamist groups, Jamaat-u-Dawa and the al-Qaida linked militant group, Sipah-e-Sahaba, could be seen flying among the crowd. Demonstrators also rallied peacefully in the Pakistani cities of Lahore, Chaman, Karachi and Peshawar.

The demonstrations are expected to grow on Friday, the traditional Muslim day of prayer. The Pakistani government deemed Friday a national holiday so people can demonstrate peacefully against the film.

That decision drew rare praise from the Pakistani Taliban, which is usually at war with the government. A spokesman for the militant group said it welcomed the decision but also thought the government should expel all American diplomats.

The U.S. State Department on Thursday warned all U.S. citizens to defer non-essential travel to Pakistan until further notice. Their previous travel warning only reminded Americans of ongoing security concerns in the country. American consulates across the country have been closed to the public all week.

In Indonesia, the U.S. consulate in the country's third-largest city of Medan was closed for a second day because of demonstrations. Fifty students from an Islamic university gathered in Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi province in Indonesia to protest the film.

In Iran, hundreds of students and clerics gathered outside the French embassy in Tehran to protest the publication of the caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad in the French weekly. In Kabul, a few hundred people demonstrated against the film before dispersing peacefully.

As I sit and write this post, our (almost) 4 month old puppy is laying on the couch beside me. Oh my, how life has changed since he, Arthur, entered our lives.?How we ended up with a puppy is a long story, let's just say that it started with me suggesting we get a fish. Yes, from pet fish to pet dog...yikes! When I was a kid I grew up with pets; dog, cat, bird, fish and hamsters. Sometimes it felt like I lived in a zoo. So, when we had kids we knew that at some point we wanted to get a pet. It took a while, but we finally felt that we were ready.

It has amazed me to see how this little puppy has changed our day to day lives. I have seen my girls show great patience...patience I didn't know that they had. When Arthur first arrived he was having some behavioural difficulties and we had to send him to the breeder, for 3 weeks. I was so impressed with how my girls handled the separation from their new pup.

I know what I have observed in my children, but I thought that I would check in with my girls and see how they think things have changed since Arthur arrived.

Was getting a puppy what you thought it would be?
C: (6 year old) No, it took a long time! First the litter had to be born, then we had to wait for our puppy to be old enough to come home with us. Then when he came here, he was scared and so he had to go back to his family. And then he finally came home to us.
M: (9 year old) No, because I thought the dog would be friendly right away.

What have you learned about puppies?
C: I learned that you can't pick them up all the time.
M: I learned that puppies aren't all cuddly, in the beginning. And, that puppies want to play!

What did you learn about yourself?
C: That I have to be patient.
M: I have learned that I want to cuddle all the time and pick up the dog all the time and I really can't...he wants to play.

Was it worth the wait and all the hard work?
C: Yes, it took a long time to get to today...but I love Arthur.
M: Yes! Because I love Arthur!

I love how insightful this whole experience has made my girls. They are so right. This puppy has taken a lot of time and effort. Kids might think that getting a puppy is going to be super easy - but it's not super easy. I remember one night in the beginning my eldest daughter coming to my husband in tears saying "I just want him to cuddle in my lap." She was heartbroken that he was such a ball of endless energy. The best part is that the girls and my husband and I have done the hard work and now we have a puppy who love to cuddle. So, I guess it's okay if he sleeps on the couch...sometimes.
