Genius GOPer says, ?A lot of people like being in abusive ...

The GOP talking point is: There is no War on Women, however, they state as such while firing shots at the female gender. A Republican legislator in New Hampshire said while discussing domestic violence during a committee meeting,??A?lot of people like being in abusive relationships.? State Rep. Mark Warden further added, ?Some people could make the argument that a lot of people like being in abusive relationships. It?s a love-hate relationship. It?s very, very common for people to stick around with somebody they love who also abuses him or her.?

Watch the crazy talk:

Granite State Progress is calling on Rep. Warden to publicly apologize to victims of domestic violence and their families for these outrageous remarks. Executive Director Zandra Rice Hawkins: ?Rep. Warden either has a complete lack of understanding about the very real and life-threatening situations that victims of domestic violence experience, or he is utterly cold. His belief that the victim is to blame is beyond comprehension. The year is 2013, not 1963.?

Later Warden claimed that his words were likely taken out of context.

Don?t we all love getting smacked upside the head?

Drinking Coffee During Pregnancy: Is it Safe? | The Stir

coffeeWe know drinking a little bit of coffee is okay during pregnancy. Or so doctors have been saying. If you're just drinking a cup or two of coffee in the morning that's supposed to be perfectly safe. Maybe those two cups of coffee are the only thing standing between you and a 12-hour nap on the sofa every day.

But researchers are here to ruin your caffeine buzz, pregnant moms. I am really sorry to report this. Please forgive me. But apparently, even small amounts of caffeine can affect your baby, according to a new study that has just ruined many women's day.

As part of the Norwegian Mother and Child Cohort Study (a ten-year project involving 59,000 pregnant women), research shows that caffeine can reduce birth weight in babies. And lower birth weight can lead to other health problems, like diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease in adulthood. Not only that, caffeine specifically from coffee increases the length of pregnancy by about eight hours for women who drank the equivalent of about three cups or more cups a day. (D'okay... is that eight hours significant, though? I'm just saying -- the whole thing lasts nine months. Am I missing something?)

Apparently it takes less caffeine than previously thought to affect babies' weight, just 200 milligrams. Doctors used to say 300 milligrams was the limit. Caffeine crosses the placenta and increases a baby's level of stress hormones. Your coffee literally stresses out your unborn baby!

But hey, don't panic moms, says the article I just read. "These effects are not that big and no?one should worry if they have had more caffeine than the guidelines recommend." Which is it, then?!? Why are they even telling us this? Can we please have a study that measures the effect of reading "things that harm your unborn child" articles on the levels of stress hormones in your unborn child? I think that might be more helpful.

How harmful do you think drinking coffee is during pregnancy?

Obesity, physical inactivity linked with risk for certain molecular ...

PHILADELPHIA ? An increasing body mass index was associated with a higher risk for colorectal cancer with a specific molecular characteristic, and inversely, physical activity was linked to a decreased risk for that same cancer, according to data published in Cancer Research, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.

"We know that exercise and avoiding obesity decrease colorectal cancer risk, but little is known about why," said Shuji Ogino, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of pathology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and associate professor in the Department of Epidemiology at Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, Mass. "In this study, we used a biomarker named CTNNB1, which is a molecule implicated in cancer and obesity, to divide patients into two groups, CTNNB1-positive and CTNNB1-negative."

Ogino and colleagues used data from more than 100,000 women from the Nurses' Health Study and more than 45,000 men in the Health Professionals Study to examine whether there was an association between body mass index (BMI) or exercise activity and colorectal cancer risk according to CTNNB1 expression status.

Among the study population, 2,263 individuals were diagnosed with colorectal cancer during follow-up. Tumor CTNNB1 expression data were available for 861 of these individuals, and 54 percent of these tumors were negative for CTNNB1 and 46 percent positive for the biomarker.

Increasing BMI by a 5.0 kg/m2 increment was associated with a 34 percent higher risk for CTNNB1-negative cancer, but was not associated with CTNNB1-positive cancer. In contrast, increasing physical activity level was associated with a significantly lower risk for CTNNB1-negative cancer. It was not associated with CTNNB1-positive cancer.

"Our results provide additional evidence for a causal role of obesity and a physically inactive lifestyle in a specific molecular subtype of colorectal cancer," Ogino said. "If physicians are able to identify individuals who are prone to develop CTNNB1-negative cancer, then it would be possible to strongly recommend physical activity."

In addition, the data indicated that CTNNB1 could be a potential target for chemoprevention and treatment, according to Ogino. He called for more population-based, large-scale databases to facilitate molecular pathological epidemiology research.

"Currently, most population-based studies do not take tumor heterogeneity into consideration, and typically colon cancer is treated as a single disease," Ogino said. "We need to integrate molecular pathology and epidemiology in education and research to facilitate integrative science and improve public health."

Small business sales executives have three decision makers to win over

Small business sales requires getting on the good side of not just one but three decision makers, according to expert Geoffrey James, and account managers should be wary of the several pet peeves of people in those positions.

A good start is essential
Whether a sales executive is talking to the person in charge of a company?s finances, the manager of?a? department?or the business? gatekeeper, he should know that they all have similar buttons pushed by salespeople?every day, Sales Gravy reports. The networking community says one key to making a sale is being original and avoiding the pitfalls many others fall into by trying to force themselves through to decision makers. Creating an opening pitch that differs greatly from clich??lines is vital to the success of a salesperson, the source claims.

Another tip Sales Gravy offers is to act personable and treat the people required to get through to decision makers well. James mentions in his Inc Magazine editorial that the first person a sale executive meets or speaks with on the phone, the gatekeeper, is the first obstacle between an account manager and a sale.

Working with the three decision makers
Still, many people tend to forget how important this employee is to them in small business marketing or sales, and Sales Gravy says downplaying the role of administrative assistants by belittling their intelligence or their hand in approving a purchase is one of the biggest mistakes salespeople make.

The two other workers needed to reach a sale is the person in charge of the department the product or service targets and the employee who manages the organization?s money, James claims. The source says while the branch manager?is essential to approval, he or she rarely have a minute to spare ? therefore, the office manager is even more important to completing a deal, as they will typically be the one to teach a salesperson about the company and relay all information about the product or service being sold to higher-ups.

Lastly, James says the financial manager is in a similar position with time as the department head, so a salesperson should pitch as much value of their product as possible and be clear about the costs with the gatekeeper. Doing some investigating before visiting an office, Sales Gravy says, can prevent an account manager from pitching to a business that may not have the need or the financial backing to support what they have to offer.

Writing and Speaking: Article Marketing

Article marketing is arguably one of the best ways of building links to your site. Now I'm almost sure I don't need to explain the importance of link building to you, or do I? Having links to your site is like humans having air to breathe. Yes, it's that important. Every SEO strategy you employ is basically for the sole purpose of getting links to your site, to increase your ranking in the search engines, to get more traffic, to generate more sales, to have a profitable online business, so you can achieve your goals.
Article marketing is basically using articles to expose your website. You can do this by submitting articles to various directories such as EzineArticles, GoArticles, ArticlesBase etc. Once your article has been approved and published, you'll receive a link to your site. You not only get a link from the directory but if other website owners find your article useful they can publish it on their site. If they leave your resource box intact, which is the ethical thing for them to do; you get another link to your site from the website that published your article. So the better your articles the better chance you stand of getting more links.
Article marketing requires you to be patient and consistent. You can't use this method for only a few weeks and expect to get to the top of the search engine page just like that. Decide how many directories you're submitting to, you want to choose only from the top ten. Then be consistent with your submissions. This can be a challenge if you don't consider yourself a good writer or if you don't have the money to outsource this function. But if you submit even one article per week, be consistent.
When done properly and with time, article marketing can get you great results by building strong links. These are natural links that the search engines love. Links from article directories are permanent and they are considered to be links from authoritative sites, at least the tops anyway. While website owners can remove your link from their websites, the only person that can remove your link from the directories is you. So your link from the directory will remain for as long as your article remains there.
Link building is imperative to your online success and though it's a slow process, article marketing is still one of the best ways to build quality links. Like I said before, be patient and consistent. You can reap the rewards of your labor for years to come.

The Pirate Bay Leaves Sweden Over Legal Threats

The Pirate Bay Leaves Sweden Over Legal ThreatsThe Pirate Bay is leaving Sweden, because pressure from a local anti-piracy group representing the entertainment industry is getting too much for it. Instead, the 'Bay will be hosted across Norway and Spain, reports Torrent Freak.

While The Pirate Bay moved to the cloud in October 2012, it continued to use web hosting services provided by the Swedish Pirate Party. But earlier this month the Pirate Party was threatened with a lawsuit from Sweden's Rights Alliance if it didn't sever ties with The Pirate Bay by February 26th.

That day is here, and so The Pirate Bay has done the only thing it could, shifting its hosting services to pirate parties in Norway and Spain. The Pirate Bay's Winona told TorrentFreak:

"TPB did of course have lots of backup transit lined up for ages. This is however the first time we are going to show two at the same time. It will be interesting to see who is now blamed for hosting TPB. In the end, maybe the anti-interneterians will understand that they can't win a fight when they have the people against them."

Norway and Spain have both shied away from taking legal action against file-sharing sites in the past. It'll be interesting to see if that remains the case. [Torrent Freak via Ars Technica]
